Bell's
Science Department is committed to providing students
an active, hands-on approach to science through standards
based education. All students at Bell Middle take 1 year
of science at 7th grade (life science) and 8th grade (physical
science). Each course is a blend of instruction with hands-on
laboratory work. All science classes teach the importance
of the science process and are currently finding new ways
of integrating technology into each course.
8th
Grade Physical Science:
Interactions in Physical Science (IPS) is an interactive
class that will involve students making observations and
testing their hypothesis. The class is designed for 8th
grade students and addresses all of the standards set
forth by the state of California. In the class students
will work as scientists; forming a hypothesis, collecting
data, analyzing that data, and interpreting the data to
make conclusions. The class has a large lab component
involving different types of equipment and as such students
need to be extremely careful and safe when working on
labs. Topics covered include: scientific method, energy,
forces and motion, chemistry and astronomy.
