Course Description

The Learning Center is an intense academic set up that helps students strengthen their skills in the areas of reading, and written language in particular.  This course syllabus is designed for student accomplishment in all subjects.  The course will help equip and empower students with the necessary strategies and tools needed to access core curriculum, raise reading levels, and improve writing mechanics.

All assignments will be completed in class and be ready to turn in on a daily basis. These assignments will be kept in your white binders/journals for grading. Grades will be sent home on weekly basis for parents to view and sign as well as give support.

Behavior Guidelines

As your teacher, I have very high expectations of you, and believe your effort is the key to success. Should there be an individual in the class who limits any one personŐs ability to do so, that student will first be given a warning. If the problem persists, a phone call will be made home to discuss the problem and a one hour after school detention will be issued for the next school day.

Above all intend to do well and have a positive mental attitude.

Homework Policy

Most assignments are designated for small group instruction and intense in class instruction. You must strive to complete your work in the classroom but in the event that homework is assigned, it is expected to be turned in on the given date. Failure to do so will result in a parent phone call and the opportunity to make up the assignment after school.

Materials Needed

Students are required to bring paper, pencil, a silent reading book, and their student planner each day. Should any other materials be needed, they shall be provided by the teacher.

Parent Communication

Parents are encouraged to contact the teacher via phone or e-mail when questions arise. In addition, I will be making monthly phone calls to update you on your childŐs progress. However, Progress report cards will be sent home with you child every six weeks (quarterly). The final report cards will be mailed by the district at the end of January 2009 and June 2009 (semester).

We, (student/and parent/guardian) have read, and fully understand the expectations and requirements for this course. Further, we pledge to work closely with Ms. Kyallo and the school community in hopes of boosting the academic success of my/our child.
