COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The content objectives reflect the California State Standards.
Students develop awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the following:
*Importance of geography and how it has influenced history
*Enduring contributions of the late ancient and medieval world
*Ways these cultures have interacted with or influenced each other
*Social, political, economic, scientific, technological, artistic, religious, and
cultural trends and achievements
*Study of major cultures of the East and West from about A.D. 500 to 1800,
including:
Roman and Byzantine Empires
Islam
Africa
Asian Civilizations
China
Japan
Feudalism in Europe and in Japan
Medieval Europe
Crusades
Renaissance
American Civilizations
Aztec, Inca, Maya

Students may arrange to see me after school.
Students may go beyond the textbook by doing research using the school or
community library.
Students may find additional information on their home or library computer.
Students may request help from 6-to-6 program or other school-sponsored tutoring.

Textbook, Medieval To Early Modern Times
Spiral notebook, single subject, to use only for History class (10 per year)
Binder with lined paper and dividers for your core subjects
Unlined white paper
colored pencils, sharpened
pencils
pen
glue sticks, to attach notes to spiral notebook
Bell planner
Reading material, your choice
Recommended Materials:
small packs of tissue
flat, 3-hole punch or one-hole punch
hand-held pencil sharpener, with a cover
colored markers, stored at home
ruler, 12 inch
mints (Bell is a no-gum school)
