COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This class will focus on events that occurred in the United States from pre-colonial period to the early 20 th century.  Important documents will also be examined to see how they have influenced the development of the American Government.

 

COURSE EXPECTIONS:  Upon completion of this course, students will be able to do the following:

            1,  Gain and understanding of geography, including reading and interpreting maps

            2,  Understand the causes and effects o important events in different point of view

            3,  Evaluate specific events of certain time periods

            4,  Recall important dates, people, places and events

            5,  Analyze how the past influences the present

            6,  Develop an appreciation of democratic laws and the structure of the U.S. 

                 government

 

HOMEWORK POLICY:  Homework assignments are usually given Monday thru Thursday.  Please check student planner.

 

REQUIRED MATERIALS:  1 1/2 inch 3 ring binder which is to be brought to class everyday.  All work will be placed in this binder.  I will ask for a parent signature  often so that you can have a chance to see how your student is doing in class.  Dividers – 6

Paper – lined   Pencils - for daily use    Pens- blue or black only for writing essays

Colored pencils- at least 8 different colors

REQUIRED TEXTBOOK:  UNITED STATES HISTORY- INDEPENDENCE TO 1914

Note:  Students will bring textbook when told ahead of time; student is responsible for reminding themselves by writing in their planner.

 

CLASS EXPECTIONS/RULES:

1.     Follow directions given by teacher

2.     Be on time ( inside the classroom and in seat BEFORE bell rings)

3.     Be prepared to work (have the required materials and attitude)

4.     No food, GUM, or drinks in class (except for water)

5.     Show respect to teacher, classmates, and visitors (no putdowns/harassments)
