Grading Criteria: In
Physical Education class, PE means Participation & Effort.
All students are expected
to earn a grade of ŇBÓ or higher. Do these 3 things:
Expectations for Physical
Education Students
Fitness
First, Sports Second.
Better fitness is our top priority, ahead of sports participation. Students are
expected to actively engage in fitness and exercise daily. This is the basis for your grade.
During
fitness and sports activities - no
stopping, standing still, or sitting. Keep your feet moving and your heart pounding at all times. Take your pulse often – feel the
beat.
Our target
heart rate goal is 120 -150 beats per minute for up to 30- 35 minutes. This
will take some time to achieve, but every student can do it. Generally, young
teens have a resting heart rate of 60-70. Doubling the rate will keep you in
the target zone, above 120.
Make every
effort to be in the front half of the class during all running/walking
(aerobic) activities, and when moving with the class from one area to another. A grade of ŇCÓ means Ňaverage,Ó or in
the middle. Stay with the pack, never in back. Walking slowly way behind the
class will not
be tolerated, and will not earn you a passing grade.
Students
should drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before and after exercise.
Be sure to get a drink on your way out to class. DonŐt count on wandering off to the drinking fountain during
class time.
