SCHOOL UNIFORM AND DRESS CODE

 

All students at Bell Middle School abide by our school uniform policy / dress code. The Uniform and Dress Code was designed to promote school safety, improve discipline, and enhance the learning environment.  All school clothing must be worn as the manufacture intended. Clothing may not be altered or modified.

 

All students must enter and exit campus in compliance with the school uniform and dress code policy.

 

All students who stay after school to participate in after-school programs must remain in uniform.

Dress Code Requirements

Shirts--Solid navy blue or burgundy polo style collared shirt, logo-free (or Bell Middle logo)

á      Only short sleeved polo shirts are permitted

á      Polo shirts must have a collar.  T-shirts are not permitted.

á      All shirts must fit appropriately, not be oversized, too tight, expose cleavage or expose the midriff.

á      A SINGLE solid black, white, gray, brown, khaki, navy, or burgundy short or long-sleeved undershirt may be worn under the outer collared shirt.

á      All shirts must be tucked in.  Waivers are not permitted for any reason.

á      Clothing may NOT be altered or modified by rubber-bands, rolling up sleeves or by any other means.

Friday Spirit Days

á      Every FRIDAY an officially-approved school club shirt, such as WEB, ASB, AVID, etc., may be worn in place of the plain collared navy or burgundy shirt. Shirts must be tucked in. Only officially-approved school shirts may be worn!

Bottoms--Solid black, beige or khaki pants, shorts, skirts, skorts

á      All bottoms must be hemmed, fit at leg/inseam and/or crotch and may not be Òskin-tightÓ.

á      All shorts/skirts/skorts must be no shorter than the tips of the fingers when arms are held straight down at the sides.

á      Bottoms must be Dickie-type style slacks / pants with no studs, stripes, patterns or fades. (No denim or corduroy)

á      Bottoms must hang down naturally.  Hems cannot be rolled up or tied with rubber bands, elastic or any other type of device.

á      Sagging, bagging, or dragging are not permitted at any time.

á      One pair of pants or shorts may be worn at one time. Additional layers of pants or shorts may not be worn under the uniform.

Shoes--Shoes must be closed-toed and cover the entire foot.

Heels must not exceed 2 inches in height.

á      All shoes must be black. No other colors are permitted.

á      Shoelaces must be tied.  Shoelaces must be black. No other colors are permitted.

á      Shoes must be plain, and free of print, patterns and pictures.

Socks--Socks must be a solid color. 

á      Socks must be solid black, white, brown, tan, navy blue, or burgundy

á      Only one pair of socks may be worn with the uniform.

á      Socks cannot have patterns, stripes or pictures.

á      Socks must be ankle to mid-calf length only.

Belts--Belts must be simple and plain with no patterns, letters or pictures.

á      Belts must be brown, blue, black, white or tan.

á      Belt buckles must be smaller than 2 inches.

á      Buckles must be free of logos and cannot display initials or have designs.

á      Belts must fit the waist and should not hang down the side of the pants.

á      Slide or ÒDÓ ring type buckles are recommended.

Outerwear --pull-over or zip-up sweatshirts, cardigan sweaters, and windbreakers may be worn.

á      All outerwear must be a solid color with no prints or patterns other than the official Bell imprinting.  Students are permitted to wear navy blue, burgundy, tan, black, brown or white sweatshirts, cardigan sweaters or windbreakers. Hoods may only be worn outdoors IF it is raining.

á      Heavy winter coats or raincoats should be in school colors and worn over a sweatshirt, cardigan sweater or windbreaker.

OTHER IMPORTANT DRESS REQUIREMENTS

á      Approved religious garments may be worn.

á      Students may only wear three top layers.

o      Short or long- sleeved shirt

o      Polo shirt

o      Sweatshirt  or jacket

á      Undergarments may not be visible for any reason.

á      Hats, caps, do-rags, bandanas, or beanies of any kind may NOT be worn on campus.

á      Only prescription glasses or prescription sunglasses may be worn.

á      All jewelry must be gold or silver in appearance, or be in one of the school colors.  Jewelry with any lettering, initials, logos, or inappropriate designs are not allowed. Earrings may not exceed 1Ó in diameter. Accessories that prove to be a distraction will be handled on an individual basis

á      School lanyard and identification card are provided to students and must be worn the entire time students are on school campus.  Replacements for ID card and lanyards are provided at a minimal cost and must be replaced within five days after it is lost.

 

Consequences:  A parent contact and/or a change of clothing are required.  Continual defiance of the dress code will result in a referral, suspension, or lowered citizenship grade.  Evidence of gang affiliation on campus will lead to suspension and/or transfer.
