I CAN'T WAIT FOR A NEW FIRST GRADE ADVENTURE TO BEGIN!

PLEASE BRING YOUR SCHOOL SUPPLIES UNMARKED AND IN A BAG AND LINE UP OUTSIDE MY DOOR ON THE #5. BRING YOUR LUNCH AND BE READY FOR AN EXCITING FIRST DAY!!

ALL VOLUNTEERS NEED TO COMPLETE A NEW OFFICE FORM BEFORE YOU MAY WORK IN THE CLASSROOM OR DRIVE ON A FIELD TRIP. We have a field trip scheduled the 2nd week of school to a play in LaJolla. HURRY as we will need drivers.

CURRICULUM

READERS WORKSHOP- We will be looking at the features of non fiction and pulling out real facts and information.

WRITERS WORKSHOP- We will be writing friendly letters and also be writing about personal experiences.

SOCIAL STUDIES- families, neighborhoods and communities.

SCIENCE - Air and weather

HANDWRITING- Practice good handwriting. We bump the lines and ALWAYS start our letters at the top.

HEALTH--- Healthy bodies.

MATH- We will be exploring number sense and values. We will be grouping numbers and finding the total.

SNACK- To allow time for a recess break and plenty of fresh air, I will be sending home a monthly apple/snack schedule. The children may snack during the reading rotation to allow them plenty of time for exercise and running around at recess.

Gala apples are the favorite, as are raisins, grapes, bananas, and granola bars. Nothing too messy or juicy and you only have to pack a snack every 24 days!

Please look for important information in every Tuesday envelope. Return it empty and signed each Wednesday. Please look for anything that needs to be signed and returned.

COOKIES or SMALL cupcakes are best for a birthday snack. Please bring in 24 with napkins to share at 11:15 recess.

Please mark ALL backpacks and lunch boxes clearly on the outside.

PE is on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please dress appropriately, especially shoes!

Children will be dismissed at 3:35 on the blacktop daily except Wednesday at 12:50. Please pick them up promptly.

Room 5 will need 2 room moms to assist us in our events. This includes field trip assistance, class parties and help in preparation of our Spring auction project.

Volunteer sign ups will be posted on the door of Room 5 sometime during the first few weeks of school. You will be needed Mon.Tues. Thurs. 10:30-11:30 for readers workshop to assist with small group instruction at a table during rotation. You will need a TB test and to sign in daily when volunteering. PLease sign up and allow time for other parents. Monthly lists from the door will be put in the Tues. envelope 1x/month. Look each month for a new sheet.

Mrs. Blum is our terrific art teacher and a volunteer is needed every other Tuesday, starting September 8, from 2:30-3:30 in B2.
