The School Site Council is a shared decision making
body composed of parents, staff, and classified
personnel. School Site Councils were mandated by
the State of California in order to oversee each
school’s Site Plan and Title I budgets.
Site Council is exclusively concerned with identifying
the need for academic programs and setting budgets.
SSC’s main responsibility is to prepare and
monitor the School Site Plan. This plan reflects
Bird Rock Elementary School's educational goals
and its main strategies for achieving those goals
for all of its students. The Site Council is also
responsible for approving Bird Rock Elementary School's
budget for the compensatory education funds we receive
each year. These funds are allocated by the state
and federal governments to serve the educational
needs of low-income children.
Since Bird Rock Elementary School operates under
a consolidated budget, these funds are blended with
the overall school budget. SSC’s responsibility
is to make sure these monies are spent in ways that
will serve both the low-income students and the
student population as a whole. The Site Council
also allocates one-time grants received by the school
from the state, the district and through Proposition
MM.
Members of the School Site Council are elected to
two-year terms with parents, staff and classified
personnel electing their own representatives. The
