The Board of Education made the following appointments 5-0, with the effective dates to be determined:

Altomare, Peter; from Acting Vice Principal, Roosevelt Junior High to Vice Principal, Roosevelt Junior High, Institute for Learning

Culver, Shirley; to Program Manager, Mental Health Resource Center, Intervention Services Department

Ryan, Lynn; from Acting Vice Principal, Central Elementary to Vice Principal, Central Elementary, Institute for Learning

The Board of Education made the following appointments 3-2, de Beck and Zimmerman voting no, with the effective date to be determined:

Allen, Brenda M.; from Peer Coach/Staff Developer, Fletcher Elementary to Specialist, K-12 Literacy Professional Development, Institute for Learning

Major agenda items included:

The board recognized Student Service Award-winners from Hoover High School.

The board voted 4-1, with Braun voting no, to approve a proposal for Adoption of Mathematics Textbooks, Grades K-5, and Instructional Materials for the 2002-2003 School Year. (E.4.a)

The board voted 5-0 to approve the Educational Technology Plan. (E.4.b)

The board voted 3-2, with de Beck and Zimmerman voting no, for an agreement, effective February 27, 2002 through June 30, 2002, between the San Diego Unified School District and Nancy Harris to provide literacy workshops during intersession and site staff development for schools buying services. (E.4.c)

The board voted 3-2, with de Beck and Zimmerman voting no, for an agreement, effective February 27, 2002 through July 31, 2002, between the San Diego Unified School District and A.U.S.S.I.E. Inc., to provide consultant services for site staff development for schools choosing to buy services. (E.4.d)

The board voted 3-2, with de Beck and Zimmerman voting no, for an agreement, effective February 27, 2002 through July 5, 2002, between the San Diego Unified School District and A.U.S.S.I.E. Inc., to provide consultant services for site staff development for schools choosing to buy services. (E.4.e)

The board voted 4-1, with de Beck voting no, to table the staff recommendation to amend the Magnet Focus at Chollas/Mead, Knox, Valencia Park, Keiller, Roosevelt, Kearny and Memorial Schools effective school year 2002-03. (E.4.f)

The board voted 3-1, with de Beck voting no and Zimmerman not in the room at the time of vote, for ratification of Agreement, effective February 13, 2002 through June 30, 2002, between the San Diego Unified School District and BWG Educational Consultants, to provide technical support and assistance to the Office of the Superintendent to ensure the quality and efficiency of the implementation of the charter school policy and guidelines. The board voted 3-2, with de Beck and Zimmerman voting no, for an agreement, effective March 1, 2002 through June 30, 2002, between the San Diego Unified School District and Ken Druck, Ph.D., to provide support on Board relations. (Ottinger) (G.2)

The board discussed a code of Ethical Governance for Board Members as a first reading and will resume discussion at the next meeting (March 12, 2002) (Zimmerman) (G.4)
The board voted 5-0 for the appointment of Lopez as Representative to the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Delegate Assembly for the term beginning May 1, 2002 to December 31, 2002. (G.7)
