Ron Ottinger, Ed Lopez, John de Beck, Sue Braun and Frances O'Neill Zimmerman present.

The Board of Education made the following appointments 4-1, with Zimmerman voting no, and effective dates to be determined:

Ginger Blackmon, from Principal, Ross Elementary, to Principal, Creative, Performing and Media Arts Magnet Middle School, Institute for Learning

Amy Bozone, from Ombudsperson, Special Education Department, to Program Manager, Due Process and Mediation, Institute for Learning.


Major agenda items included:

The board voted 5-0 to approve the Petition and Charter for the Albert Einstein Academy Charter School. (E.7.a)

The board voted 5-0 to approve the Petition and Charter for the Promise Charter School. (E.7.b)

The board voted 3-2, with Zimmerman and de Beck voting no, to decline the Petition and Charter for the Sherman Science and Technology Charter School. (E.7.c)

The board recognized the District 2002 Classified Employees of the Year nominees, site representatives, Classified Woman of the Year Patricia Cucinotta, Classified Man of the Year, Michael Wasinski, and voted 5-0 to pass a resolution recognizing May 20-24, 2002 as Classified School Employees Week.

The board voted 5-0 to adjust, effective July 1, 2001, the Site Administrator, Management and Supervisors' Salary Schedules to reflect the 1.36% adjustment per agreement. (E.3.b)

The board voted 5-0 to adjust, effective July 1, 2001, the Confidential Employees' Salary Schedule to reflect the 1.36% adjustment per agreement. (E.3.c)

The board 5-0 to adjust, effective July 1, 2001, the Certificated Salary Schedules to reflect the 1.36% adjustment per negotiated agreement. (E.3.d)

The board voted 5-0 to adjust, effective July 1, 2001, the School Police Services Salary Schedule to reflect the 1.36% adjustment per agreement. (E.3.e)

The board voted 5-0 for the proposal for Adoption of Textbooks and Instructional Materials for the 2002-2003 School Year. (E.4.a)

The board voted 5-0 for the Immediate Intervention/Underperforming Schools Program and High Priority Schools Grant Program School Site Action Plans. (E.4.e)

The board voted 5-0 for the Ratification of Agreement, effective September 1, 2001 through August 31, 2002, between the San Diego Unified School District and San Diego State University Foundation to provide development to 328 elementary and secondary mathematics teachers at participating schools during the 2001-02 school year. (E.4.f)

The board voted 5-0 to approve the recommendations of the follow-up to Annual Instructional Facilities Planning Report for 2002-03. (E.4.g)
