The Board of Education made the following appointment 4-1, Mrs. Zimmerman voting no, and with effective date to be determined:

Vincent (Derek) Morris - from Vice Principal, Gompers Secondary School, to Vice Principal, Clairemont High School, Office of Instructional Support.


Major agenda items included:

The board recognized Crawford High School as an AVID School of Distinction and Wilson Middle School as an AVID Demonstration School. (C.1)

The board voted 5-0 for the resolution in the Matter of the Recognition of May 2004, as Asian Pacific Heritage Month. (C.2)

The board heard a status report on the District Wide Applications and voted 5-0 for the recommendation for approval of the increase in contract services to Empower Solutions by $950K and Forest Glen LLP for project architect services by $54K. (E.2.a)

The board voted 5-0 for the Sherman Elementary School Modernization and Rebuilding, Option 2 to completely rebuild the school. (E.5.a.)

The board voted 4-0, with Mrs. Nakamura abstaining due to personal conflict, for the Gompers Transition Plan 2004-05 and 2005-06. (E.6.e)

The board voted 5-0 for the adoption of the Memorandum of Understanding between San Diego Education Association and the San Diego Unified School District for the purpose of clarifying the language of Article 21 and its implementation, in accordance with Section 3547.5 of the California Government Code and Section 1028 of the Bylaws of the Board of Education. (F.2)

The board voted 5-0 for the adoption of the San Diego Unified School District's Demand to bargain negotiable aspects of a reduction of the Peer Coach and Staff Developer (PCSD) work year and Job Description, relative to the Collective Negotiations Agreement between the Board of Education and the San Diego Education Association, in accordance with Section 3547 of the California Government Code and Section 1029 of the Bylaws of the Board of Education. (F.3)

The report on Basic Financial Statements and Supplementary Information, June 20, 2003 (With Independent Auditor's Report Thereon) and District Response was withdrawn as an action item. It will return to the board as an action item on May 11. (E.4.b)

The work year reduction for certificated, non-management central office staff item was tabled and will return to the board as an action item on May 11. (E.6.d)
