Foundation The
Foundation is a registered 501(c)3, non-profit organization, created by B-W
parents. The objective of the Foundation is to fund present and future programs
or projects designed to benefit the children at Benchley-Weinberger. The
Foundation compliments B-W’s PTA. The bylaws of the Foundation offer
tremendous flexibility in the allocation of funds to programs, services and
equipment that cannot be supported by the PTA fundraising activities. The PTA
and the Foundation have become vital partners in sustaining the high standards
of our school. What are the Foundation’s
activities?
Our
main fundraiser this year will be the Jog-A-Thon. We also have “Family Night
at the Bench," where a movie will be shown for the entire family. This year
we will be having an opportunity drawing. At
every event at school there will be a chance to purchase tickets. At
the May spirit assembly a ticket will be drawn and that person will receive half
of the money raised. The other half
will go to the Foundation to help support all the programs and improvements at
our school. What has the Foundation accomplished? The Foundation uses its funds to continue and support the following programs: the music program, Panda Press Student newspaper, art program, the library and the running program. The Foundation also gives to the Kindergarten-Garden, purchased air conditioning for the classrooms, contributed to the building of the shade structure on the lower playground, and purchased projectors for all of the classrooms. We also redid the grass in the Kindergarten area. Some
of the improvements
paid for by the auction as well as other Foundation fundraising endeavors
include: overhead projectors for the classrooms, sports equipment, landscaping
projects, the music program, the art program, a shade structure in the school
yard, air conditioning for the classrooms, a new teacher’s lounge, the morning
running club for the children, and much, much more. We are proud of what we have
been able to accomplish but so much more is needed. How can I help the
Foundation? The
Foundation is made up entirely of parents of B-W students. They
volunteer their time and talents to support programs and activities that benefit
all of our children. We typically meet on a monthly basis at B-W. Meetings
