Important: Grade 1 has been established as the retention grade at the elementary level. At the end of the school year, first grade students who do not meet the promotion criteria will be retained and receive an accelerated instructional program. However, students may be retained at any grade level if they are performing significantly below grade level and have not participated in the available support and intervention opportunities as prescribed in this contract.

Teacher(s): Prior to the last six weeks of school (elementary), schedule a meeting with the parent/guardian (and student, if appropriate) to discuss the students progress and your decision concerning promotion/retention. If the parent/guardian does not attend the meeting, ensure that they are notified in writing of your decision. (The parent/guardian must be notified of your decision two weeks prior to the last day of instruction.)
