ASB Annual Magazine Fundraiser Even though the ASB Annual Magazine Fundraiser is over, your parents and family can still support our school by ordering/reordering their magazine subscriptions online at any time during the year. Be sure to tell them that all publisher special coupons are honored, that De Portola earns approximately 40% net profit on all magazines sold, and that the profits are used to fund school programs and student activities. |
Red Ribbon Week
During Red Ribbon Week we pledged to live safe and drug-free lives. With educational and fun activities, we learned how to take of ourselves and each other in our promise... "Say NO to drugs!".

Fill the Boot with Loot! ... we raised over $4,200! Together with the Builders Club, we wanted to help the firefighters who lost their homes while saving others. Our goal was to have everybody put money in the 16 boots so we could fill them to the top during Chill on Friday, November 2nd. Thanks to all your incredible support, we did it! |

Congratulations to all the students and staff who played in the Foundation's Annual Staff vs. Students Basketball game. What a game! Thanks to everyone who came to watch the game and support our school. Check out the pictures!
Our school put together a great team of runners and walkers for the annual Race for Literacy on Sunday morning, May 6, 2007 in Balboa Park. All money from the race goes to the San Diego Council on Literacy. It was standing room only at the PTA's Annual Ice Cream Social at Baskin Robbins on March 14th... click on the Baskin Robbins logo to see the pictures from this fun event! The ASB collected quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies in a special box in each class every day during 1st period for the annual Pasta for Pennies drive which supports the Leukemia Society. Thanks to all of the classes for finding all that loose change and bringing it in to help others! The class results are: Ms. Weiner's class in 1st place with $915.11, Ms. Munnelly's class in 2nd place with $885.07, Mr. Cortes' class in 3rd with $282.37, Mrs. Douglas' class in 4th with $217.12, and Mrs. Bechtel's class in 5th with $151.75. The real winner is the Leukemia society... they received about $2,500 from the students and staff at DP. Students in the winning class received a Pasta Party donated by the Olive Garden On January 2, 2007, thirteen 6th Graders began their election campaigns with posters and flyers around the school. The speeches and election took place on January 5th. Congratulations to Mark Lovecchio, our new 6th Grade President. All the candidates in the election worked very hard on their campaigns and did a great job! Are you ready for Lacrosse! Well we are! To pump up interest and let everyone know our season has started, the Tierrasanta Titans Lacrosse team held a scrimmage at De Portola on the grass fields after school on Friday, January 5th. Coach Craig Johnson would like to remind everyone that we are still out there on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for any players new or old who want to stop by and improve their skills while getting to know their team mates. The Chill on the Hill activity on December 1st included the Cha-Cha Slide, a big hit with everybody. Keep practicing... we'll be doing it again soon! The Dance on November 8th had a Halloween theme (no costumes)... the decorations were terrific! Over 300 students attended and had a great time with the DJ playing everybody's favorite songs. Special thanks to the ASB Dance Committee for a great job!! During Red Ribbon Week, we pledged to live safe and drug-free lives. With educational and fun activities, we learned how to take care of ourselves and each other in our promise... "Say NO to drugs!” Magazine Drive activities have been fun for everybody. We played Bingo with raffle winners for $5 a game, we watched the staff eat chocolate covered crickets, and we cheered for our classes in the Giga Ball races. Remembering 9/11 Ceremony... Everyone wore red, white and blue for the event. The Serra High School Color Guard and the Tierrasanta Fire Department participated in the Ceremony. Students and staff honored the firefighters for their dedication to the community and putting their life on the line everyday. |

WE ROCK!!!... de Portola has been chosen a California School to Watch. The PTA, Foundation and ASB joined together in supporting the Robotics Club. Check out these amazing pictures
On January 11, 2006, the PTA and ASB presented Keith Hawkins for 6th, 7th and 8th Grade assemblies, speaking on character and respect, making good choices, setting goals... being a leader and not a follower. “Leadership is about standing up for what’s right, no matter what others may think of you.” He explained, “It’s great to be around people who accept you, but to make the right decision, sometimes you have to be different.” (Pictures) On February 4th, de Portola celebrated our 20th Anniversary. Thank you so much to everyone who made this wonderful celebration such a huge success!! ASB collected quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies in special "Pasta for Pennies" boxes from each class for the Leukemia Society. The Leukemia Society helps people who suffer from cancer. Mrs. Douglas' class came in 1st place with $1,013, Mrs. Carl's class 2nd with $929, and Ms. Weiner's class 3rd with $755. Over $5,000 was raised ... WOW!! As you can see from the pictures, de Portola teachers and staff scooping ice cream at Baskin Robbins drew a big crowd on March 13th --- over $300 was donated back to de Portola. Thanks to our "scoopers"... and thanks to everybody for coming! The de Portola Foundation's Annual Students v. Staff Basketball Game on March 23rd was a fun and exciting evening for all. In a close game emcee'd by Ms. Weiner, the Staff pulled off the win by one point in the last seconds of the game. Congratulations to both teams for an awesome game!! |
