Overview
The Elementary School Instructional Support Department is responsible for supporting elementary educators in meeting the academic needs of all students. The Department supports teachers and administrators in the areas of curriculum and instruction and related professional development.
The Elementary School Instructional Support Department consists of the following programs:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
- Standards Based Report Card
Literacy Education
The Literacy curriculum supports a balanced, comprehensive, and research-based instructional model as described in the Reading/Language Framework for California Public Schools Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve.
Mathematics Education
The Mathematics curriculum goal is to improve K-12 students' mathematics achievement through the delivery of high quality instruction.
Science Education
The Science curriculum supports a balanced, comprehensive, and research-based instructional model as described in the Science Framework for California Public Schools Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve.
History/Social Science
The History/Social Science curriculum supports history and social science instruction in grades K-12. Instruction is designed to support students in their understanding of the foundational ideas and philosophy of our country, and the historical themes and events of the world's many cultures.
Standards Based Report Card
The San Diego Unified School District is now using a Standards-Based Report Card (SBRC) at the elementary level. This is an exciting step for our schools as we work towards ensuring that all students are successful at meeting grade-level standards.
