Superintendent's Message
The
importance of being ethical role models
Dear Fellow Employee,
The San Diego Unified School District exists to serve the students and families of the San Diego community. As public servants, our actions must earn, promote, and maintain the public’s trust and confidence in our district. Our success in improving student performance depends on being good role models who build employee, parent, and community trust.
We join many other public and private organizations in actively promoting a culture that inspires ethical conduct, supports personal responsibility, and builds trust. The Board of Education unanimously approved our district’s Ethics Code. This website disseminates the code, elaborates on its ten essential provisions, and offers multiple examples of how each provision applies to differing groups in the district.
You’ll also find information and helpful examples about what an ethical culture looks like and how each of us can contribute to an environment that makes us excited about coming to work every day. Knowing this is a place where we all use our talents and pull together to make a difference for kids is tremendously motivating and gratifying.
Ensuring that our students succeed and thrive requires an ethical culture—one that nourishes students, staff, and community, and consistently sustains an excellent district reputation. Please join me in supporting that culture and continually strengthening our district community, reputation, and effectiveness.
