| Biography
Nellie Meyer has been involved with the San Diego Unified School District for over 24 years, including more than 10 years as a middle school and high school teacher. She has served as dean of students, vice principal and principal. In August of 2006 she was appointed as Assistant Superintendent of High Schools and has recently been appointed to the position of Chief High School Improvement Officer.
Clairemont High School’s Student Achievement growth jumped 83 points in only three years under her leadership as Principal. This was one of the highest API increases of any comprehensive San Diego County high school during that period. Also, during this time, Clairemont experienced a dramatic increase in its student attendance rate from 91% to 97%. At the Carnegie-funded smaller learning community, she guided systemic reform, creating higher standards, smaller and more personalized learning environments, collaborative leadership structures and the use of data to support continuous improvement.
In her current position she has instituted training from Richard DuFour on Professional Learning Communities to her site principals as well as providing sessions in staff development by Doug Reeves. Collaboratively, she has built a strong, efficient, caring team that shares Best Practices and learning strategies using a model of continuous improvement.
Mrs. Meyer believes strongly that high school students want to be challenged and that it is the responsibility of educators and parents to work together to provide students with the support and resources they need to succeed.
