Professional Development Calendar

Course-Alike Calendar and Registration
The spring Course-Alike calendar is available on the High School Instructional Support Website. Course-Alikes are available for teachers in Science, Mathematics, English, and Social Studies. Teachers can view the schedule of meetings and register by clicking HERE. We are looking to have at least one representative from each school site participate. Visiting teachers are provided.

Opportunity for Earth Science Teachers
Funded by the National Science Foundation, Scripps Institute of Oceanography/UCSD has partnered with the district High School Instructional Support Department to develop the Scripps Classroom Connection • Scripps Teacher Fellows Program. SIO graduate students will be linked with our high school earth science teachers to create laboratory-based lessons for classroom implementation. This is a fantastic opportunity to expand teacher content knowledge, build university connections and develop powerful experiences for SDUSD students. Genocide Workshop for Teachers
A workshop entitled "Teaching About Genocide" will happen March 19, 2009 at the Harold J. Ballard Parent Center Auditorium. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Interested teachers can sign up at http://registration.sandi.net.

Student Mathematics/Science Scholarships Available
The Mashin Scholarship is available to students wanting to pursue mathematics/science degrees in college.  Students must attend a college in San Diego County.  Last year SDUSD only received four applications. Also, the San Diego Education Fund Future Educators Program is availalbe for students wanting to become teachers.  SDUSD gave twenty two scholarships last year. Students must attend college in San Diego County.

San Diego Science Festival
Please check out http://www.sdsciencefestival.org/ for this once in a lifetime event celebrating science. There are many activities scheduled in the month of March. Not to be missed.

We the People: Project Citizen
We the People: Project Citizen is a curricular program for middle and high students that promotes competent and responsible participation in state and local government. Participating teachers will receive a $50 stipend in addition to lessons and materials. Dates: Thursday, March 19 - 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm; Saturday, March 21 - 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. Geometric Reasoning Mini-Conference
Click here for information about a mini-conference sponsored by MDTP about "Geometric  Reasoning"  The conference registration fee has been waived again this year. Food, parking, and handouts will be provided. The conference will explore questions about the learning and teaching of geometry and what geometric reasoning means.
