Discontinued Automatic Printing of Direct Deposit Advices
Employees may choose to continue receiving a printed advice by following the directions in the How to Setup Your Pay Statement Print Option Job Aid
.
In an effort to reduce the use of paper and the cost associated with printing advices, SDUSD will stop the automatic printing of direct deposit advices effective with the March 31, 2009 monthly payroll. The district currently prints in excess of 191,000 advices per year. By going “paperless,” the cost of processing our annual payroll will be reduced by approximately $40,000. Employees will still be able to access (and print) a revised online version of their pay advice through PeopleSoft. This printed document can be used for all of the same purposes where a paycheck document is required (i.e. financing a vehicle purchase, financing a home loan, etc.)
The Payroll Department encourages all district employees to participate in direct deposit and to join us as we “go green” with a paperless electronic pay advice. According to the PayItGreen™ Alliance, the average household can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 171 pounds annually by switching to Direct Deposit/Direct Payment, and by requesting electronic bills and statements. For questions regarding the electronic advice, call Fiscal Control at (619) 725-7679 or (619) 725-7682. If you would like to sign up for direct deposit, contact Payroll at (619) 725-8146.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
Notice to Employees - Changes in Income Tax Withholding
New withholding tables may reduce the amount of income tax withheld from your wages.
The new tables, prescribed by the Department of the Treasury, reflect the Making Work Pay credit and other changes resulting from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
You do not have to submit a Form W-4, Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate, to get the automatic withholding change. If you do not want to have your withholding reduced (because, for example, you have more than one job or you are married and your combined income places you in a higher tax bracket), you may want to file a new Form W-4 with your employer. You may claim fewer withholding allowances on line 5 or request additional amounts to be withheld on line 6.
For additional help, get IRS Publication 919, How Do I Adjust My Tax Withholding?
Or visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov and use the “Withholding Calculator.”

Understanding Your Paycheck
Understanding and reviewing your paycheck each month is important. The Payroll Department is on a continual process of improving efficiency. It’s also the one organizational function where 99.9% accuracy is simply not good enough. Its operations are regulated closely and scrutinized by a myriad of local, state and federal agencies, auditors, collection agents, and of course, by San Diego Unified School District employees. That’s why your input regarding particular variances on your individual paycheck is so important. Your payroll specialist is anxious to help resolve variances quickly and efficiently.
