Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What's the difference between Translation and Interpretation? A translation is a written English document that has been translated into another language. An interpretation is an oral translation into a language other than English. How long will it take to get my document translated? Turnaround time depends on the length of the document. It generally takes about a week to translate, edit and proofread a five-page newsletter. For some languages, it may take longer. When should I request an interpreter for a meeting? Make sure you request interpretation service for a meeting as soon as you know the date of your meeting. It's best to call two weeks in advance. Contact the Translation Unit as soon as possible with any time or date changes. Schools are charged for cancelled meetings if they do not contact the Translation Unit to inform us of any changes. Do you translate IEPs? No. The Special Education Programs Division has its own translators and interpreters. What's the best way to send you my document to be translated? It is best to email the document to the Translation Unit Supervisor, Ana Morales, at amorales@sandi.net. Your document will preserve its original format and graphics. However, if the document has graphics that significantly increase the document's file size, please remove the pictures and add them back after you receive the translated document. Why is my translation in Adobe Pdf format? Southeast Asian fonts are not compatible with the western alphabet. By converting a translated document to a pdf file, anyone with the Adobe Acrobat Reader utility installed on his or her computer may view the file. Otherwise, special fonts must be purchased and installed for proper viewing. Please note, however, that you will not be able to make any modification to this format. |
