Dingeman's Fifth Grade Curriculum Overview We believe that by working together, Dingeman staff, families, students, and community members will educate, challenge and nurture all students.

State, Academic Standards
The State of California offers an overview of the States Educational Standards.
Balboa Park Program It is the mission of the Balboa Park Program to support integration in our schools by teaching all fifth grader students about the unique historical, biological, and cultural resources of Balboa Park in a program which models and encourages respect, understanding, and appreciation for individual and cultural diversity.
San Diego City Schools Music Program
Instrumental music classes are available to any child interested in learning to play a standard orchestral instrument. Beginning classes will meet twice a week and advanced classes will meet once a week. Classes will meet during school hours.
The following is a list of time as that the students are to go to music for the 2000 - 2001 school year.

We offer your student a page, Kids Safe Links, where they can find helpful safe links to all type of educational information, like links to general research, or new and references.
Need help with Lightning Rod?
Each week students in 2nd through 5th grade do Lightning Rod Tests. If your students needs some extra practice on lightning Rod, now you can print out a Lightning Rod Worksheet to practice at home.

Fifth Grade Learning Academy: Fifth Grade students will rotate between four different Learning Academies. To see what your student will explore in these courses please check our 5th Grade Learning Academy page.
Community Service: As part of the Advance Academic Studies, each student is requires to work twelve hours or more in the community. This site is a
list of several suggestions where your fifth grade student can volunteer their time.
You can use your student's Stanford 9 Reading Comprehension Score, which is located at the bottom of your Stanford 9 Test results to get a list of state-recommended books that are at your child's reading level. For a copy of the reading list, visit the STAR web site, or (http://star.cde.ca.gov)
Young Students Suggested Reading List: It's a list of books to encourage young people of extraordinary promise to grow intellectually by reading good books. Use this list as a starting point in developing your own personal reading list.
