Refrigerator Replacement Program

It's time to get rid of that old refrigerator at your site! In coming months, about 900 refrigerators throughout the district's schools and central offices will be replaced with brand-new, energy-efficient models. The new Energy Star models will consume significantly less energy than older, non-compliant models. The school district is getting the new fridges at a great rate with rebate assistance from SDGE.

The program will result in utility savings of at least $200,000 per year. Also, the district will benefit from repair savings. Not only will the fridges be new, but M&O staff will only need to warehouse and carry one standard set of repair parts and coordinate one type of warranty.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. All fridges that are 12-cubic-feet and larger will be replaced.
  2. Maintenance & Operations staff is currently taking an inventory of all fridges that need to be replaced. Your site will be visited soon, if it hasn't already. Please assist M&O staff by directing them to all fridges at your site.
  3. The old fridges will be removed and new fridges will be installed at all sites between now and March 31, 2006. You will be notified of the exact date. Please make sure all contents of old refrigerators are in bags or boxes to facilitate easy transfer from the old to new refrigerator.
  4. The old fridges will be properly recycled, in an effort to further protect the environment.
  5. Donated fridges will no longer be accepted by schools or the district. If a neighbor or parent wants to donate a fridge to your site, please inform them that the district no longer accepts donations unless the fridge is the approved model (model numbers available from the Energy office).

If you have any questions, please call the Energy Office at (858) 627-7413.
