| Frequently
Asked Questions
Will
enrollment in a Magnet school affect athletic eligibility?
Students
who are involved in Magnet programs are eligible to participate in athletics.
Specific information regarding whether or not a student can be granted
immediate athletic eligibility can be obtained from a school's Magnet
program resource teacher. Please refer to the telephone number listed
on each Magnet school web page.
How
are students chosen for Magnets?
Applications
for Magnet schools are accepted from all students district-wide to any
Magnet school. Applications received between November 1, 2008 and February 15, 2009 are sorted by the high school cluster in which the student
resides and given a computer generated random number. A rank-ordered
grade level list will be sent to schools. Schools accept students in
the order of the list. Magnet
enrollment priorities are followed by all Magnet schools in the
district.
What
about siblings?
Siblings
have priority in the Magnet application
process. Applications from siblings of concurrently enrolled students
will be randomized and placed at the top of the lists if received during
the application period, through February 15 for the following
school year.
