Magnet Programs are special learning opportunities for all students living in and around the San Diego Unified School District area. Magnet Programs attract students by offering unique opportunities for in-depth studies in specific areas of study while meeting rigorous California state curriculum standards. Magnet Programs also offer a variety of special features to students, which may include:

  • specialized teaching labs and studios
  • additional funds for special activities
  • 21st century technology
  • field trips
  • extra classroom books and materials

Many magnet schools work closely with universities and businesses to provide exposure to higher education and career opportunities.

Some of our newest magnet programs are made possible through the Magnet Schools Assistance Program Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This grant provides the initial funds necessary to develop innovative, exciting educational programs that attract students from across the district. Learn more.

We invite you to explore this site and learn more about the specialized themes and programs at each of our elementary, secondary and atypical schools, go to the magnet schools websites. If you have additional questions about a program or want to schedule a tour, feel free to contact the principal or magnet resource teacher at the specific school you are interested in. For general magnet questions and the application directions please see the on-line School Choice Catalog or call Enrollment Options at (619) 725-5672.
