Elementary
Magnet Schools
From
science and research to journalism and telecommunications, each Magnet
school has a unique focus. While meeting the same academic requirements
as all San Diego Unified School District, elementary Magnet schools
offer added "extras" to the regular school curriculum. Basic
skills are strengthened and the special Magnet focus is integrated throughout
all areas of learning, creating diverse educational opportunities that
encourage students to discover and maximize their potential.
Secondary
Magnet Schools
Secondary
Magnet schools offer concentrated instruction in specific Magnet themes
such as engineering, science, drama, dance, graphic design, and world
languages. In addition high school Magnets offer students the opportunity
to participate in rigorous academic capstone courses such as International
Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP) coursework/exams and Regional
Occupation Programs (ROP). ROP courses allow students to explore and
prepare for career options ranging from entry-level positions to professions
requiring college degrees.
Students
who are involved in Magnet programs are eligible to participate in athletics.
Specific information regarding whether or not a student can be granted
immediate athletic eligibility can be obtained from the school's Magnet
program resource teacher. Please refer to the telephone number listed
with each school.
