Webster
Academy of Science and Research Magnet students
participate in a strong academic program enriched by an integrated
science curriculum. Students complete in-depth and hands-on studies
of animal species, chemical reactions, and earth materials while
simultaneously learning the necessary research skills –
embedded with reading, writing, and math – critical to academic
success. Classroom science curriculum is well articulated and
encompasses all aspects of the sciences: life, earth, physical,
and environmental. Science and Research Labs support classroom
science instruction with hands-on, inquiry-based problem solving
experiences and research.

and lab computers (including class sets of laptops in Grades
4-6) for activities that focus on the development of critical
thinking/problem solving skills and writing through word processing,
PowerPoint, and research on the Internet

and modeling of instructional strategies that increase student

Mission Statement
Webster Academy of Science and Research is dedicated to supporting children as they achieve their full academic, social, and emotional potential by motivating children to become successful citizens in our diverse and ever changing society. Together with family and community members, our goal is to develop strong and independent thinkers.
Our students will come away with a clear belief in self, the understanding that learning is an ongoing process, and the ability to communicate effectively.

Our vision at Webster is to create a positive and supportive environment where all students learn through exploration and discovery in all content areas.
SMART Goals:
English/Language Arts SMART Goal:
By the end of June 2009, 60 % of students (209 students) in 2-6 will receive a score of proficient as measured on the district-developed writing rubrics in the area of Ideas/Content and Organization.
By the end of June 2009, 60% (40 students) will score proficient or higher on the state writing assessment.
Closing the Gap SMART Goal:
By the end of June 2009, 50 % (87 students) of English Learners will progress a level or higher in all areas of writing as measured on the English Language Development Performance Indicator.
Mathematics SMART Goal:
By June 2009, and increase from 70% to 78% of students (272students) in grades 2-6 will score proficient or advanced in the Number Sense Strand using district benchmark assessments and end of module assessments.
Closing the Gap SMART Goal:
By June 2009, an increase from 73 % to 78% of our English Learners in grades 2-6 (total of 135 students) will score proficient or advanced in conceptual understanding of number sense on the end of module and benchmark assessments.
