October 17 & 18
Day of Concern

About Young People and Gun Violence

The Day of National Concern about Young People and Gun Violence is a national observance giving students throughout the country the chance to sign the Student Pledge Against Gun Violence, and participate in activities that encourage students to take a proactive stance in reducing gun violence.

Here in San Diego, the observance is voluntary one for schools. In addition to the pledge signing, students at participating schools will see a grade-appropriate video about gun violence.
Students in grades 4-12 will see a video telling the story of Tariq Khamisa. Students in grades K-3 will hear the story The Gorp's Gift , preceded by a brief (2 1/2 minute) video featuring Ples Felix of the Khamisa Foundation.
