Note that the San Diego Unified School District DOES NOT cover all of the City of San Diego.  For example, areas north of Mira Mesa and Scripps Ranch (e.g. ZIP Code 92130, Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Mountain and Rancho Penasquitos except for streets feeding into Mercy Road) are served by other school districts.  Parts of the City of San Diego close to the U.S.-Mexico international border (e.g. San Ysidro, Otay Mesa) are also served by other school districts.  Small parts of the City of San Diego bordering Lemon Grove (parts of the Jamacha, Lomita and North Encanto neighborhoods) are served by other school districts.

San Diego Unified District does not serve any parts of the cities of Del Mar, Solana Beach, Poway, Santee, El Cajon, Chula Vista, Lemon Grove, National City or Coronado.  SDUSD does serve just a few addresses in the city of La Mesa, however.  SDUSD also serves a small unincorporated area between the city line, Paradise Valley Road, S.
