High School Student Mechanics Program Continues its Success |
|
Well into its second year, the student “apprentice program” partnership with Special Education, Clairemont High School and the Transportation Services Department continues to be a success. This semester, four students are exploring careers in fleet Maintenance and recently spent time at Transportation doing valve adjustments alongside their “technician teacher of the day” John Joaquin, automotive repair technician. When asked about the program and the students who come to the garage three times per week, John stated, “It’s very rewarding working with these students. I feel like I’ve accomplished something at the end of every day they’re here.” Transportation is now in discussions with other high schools and non-Special Ed programs about additional apprentice opportunities. For more information, please contact Alex Robinson, director of transportation, at (858) 496-8710. |
