Retest Review Committee

Any student who does not meet the San Diego Unified School Board required criteria for retesting, including a request for a third test, must be referred for appeal to the GATE Retest Committee for further consideration. A packet should be submitted for each student containing:



Criteria for Appeal to the Retest Committee

Any student who does not meet the San Diego City School Board required criteria for retesting must be referred for appeal to the GATE Retest Committee. A packet shall be submitted for EACH student containing:
  1. a cover letter* from the parent, referring teacher or counselor summarizing the request with supporting information explaining why there is a request for retesting. It should state any specific concerns, and other related information about the student's interests, abilities or changes in development;
  2. copies of the CST results (or other standardized achievement test) for at least the past 2 years with the national norms, percentiles, or level indicated (e.g. Advanced, Proficient);
  3. copies of previous report cards for at least the past 2 years;
  4. any letters of recommendation, especially from teachers, supporting the request;
  5. (optional) some information about the student's achievements in or outside of school, e.g. awards, commendations or leadership experiences;
  6. (optional) copies of exemplary work samples demonstrating the student's efforts and abilities to excel. (Please do not send original work as it is difficult to return.)

    *Please make sure they include a phone number and/or email address for contact information.

ALL THIRD TESTS MUST GO THROUGH THE RETEST COMMITTEE.
