The school nurse performs first aide, gives medications, performs procedures, educates parents and students about health, assists parents with referrals for health care, prevents communicable disease and performs mandated health screenings….to name a few! Click this link to find out more about what a school nurse does. The following are mandated health screenings your child will receive: Vision screening - Kindergarten, 3rd and 6th grade; Hearing screening - Kindergarten, 2nd, 5th and 8th grade; Scoliosis screening - 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys. If you need help obtaining health care or follow-up for mandated screenings, please call the nurse for assistance. California State law requires first graders to have a physical exam before December (Child Health and Disability Prevention exam) or your child will be excluded from school. You may sign a waiver if you do not want your child to have an exam. Kindergarteners are required to have an Oral Health Assessment (OHA) before May. Click the links below to print the required form.
