Dear Golden Hill Families,
Along with the staff members of Golden Hill, I extend a warm welcome to each of you. It is with great enthusiasm that I look forward to this year and all that it will bring. As partners in the important task of educating your children, I encourage you to become acquainted with every aspect of our school program. Your children will continue to be immersed in all aspects of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. We will also continue emphasize the development of technology and media skills.
Golden Hill will continue to provide a rigorous and balanced instructional program that will result in accelerated student learning. Teachers will be provided opportunities to study and improve instructional practice through grade-level planning meetings and staff conferences. This training will in turn provide your children with powerful learning and a promise that they will receive the highest quality instruction from their teachers who will have the tools and resources to make this happen. The expectation is that all students are college bound.
The K-8 Facilities Modifications Project construction started last week and is expected to be completed by the end of 2008-2009 school year. Room 27 is undergoing a remodel to convert it into an upper-grade Science Lab; the upstairs restrooms are being modified for our middle grades students. The bulk of the project will involve the construction of the P.E. facility along A Street. Construction of the outdoor amphitheater will begin in the summer of 2009.
There are many opportunities for parents to be involved here at school. For example, there are governance committees, special events, fundraising events, parent organizations, and Family Fridays. Family Friday events function well for parents who would like to see their child’s school environment. You will have a chance to visit the classroom and see the visual guides/materials that teachers prepare to enrich your child’s day. Parents, students, community and staff work together as partners in your child’s educational process. We look forward to this new school year with exciting prospects.
If you are interested in becoming more involved with the school, please call me or contact Lorraine Gurrola at (619) 236-5600. If you should have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please feel free to call the school and arrange a time to meet with your child’s teacher.
Sincerely, Mr. Romo
