Welcome to Ulysses S. Grant Math/Science Magnet School. For nearly
100 years, we have been located in the beautiful and historic San
Diego neighborhood of Mission Hills. Our school's magnet focus is
supported by math and science labs staffed
by certificated teachers. We have an active group of parents who
volunteer in classrooms, publish the monthly Grant Slant newsletter,
arrange visual and performing arts programs during school, and coordinate
the Thursday Kids Club, which provides enrichment classes for our
students after school.
Vision Statement
We believe that the school and community together should commit
their energies to developing an equitable and interdisciplinary
environment which empowers students to become better thinkers in
our global society. It would be our vision that this process would
embrace an enthusiasm for the development of respect, self-esteem
and the unique qualities necessary for students and staff to succeed.
Ulysses S. Grant Math/Science Elementary Magnet School is dedicated
to becoming a leader in educational technology as a tool to maintain
high curriculum standards. We are committed to our teacher/student
learning process in our school by training teachers, acquiring various
instructional technologies, and assisting students as they expand
their base of knowledge.
Opportunities for Parent Involvement
Grant’s parents volunteer as readers, tutors, or chaperones
at school events. They belong to various committees including the
governance team and the Grant Community Foundation. The Parent/Teacher
Association (PTA) sponsors a Thursday Kids Club enrichment program
for Grant students in grades 1–5. Parents publish a monthly
Grant Slant newsletter and work with Grant’s Gecko Garden.
The Parent Congress is composed of a parent delegate from each
school and is designed to provide information about student achievement,
gather input from parents, and consult with them about educational
issues. It meets four times a year.
Community Involvement
We at Grant are committed to obtaining community resources for
our school and invite all constituencies to assist us in the education
of our students. We have established community partnerships that support our school by assisting with extracurricular school activities and projects.
Our school gratefully acknowledges the tremendous support we receive
from our partners, parents, and community volunteers.
Part of our commitment to serve the Grant School community is embodied in our monthly newsletter, the Grant Slant. We have an archive of Grant Slants available by clicking on this link => Grant Slant
