I am excited to begin a new school year and look forward to getting to know your child. This letter is intended to briefly give you an overview of my philosophies as well as introducing you to classroom requirements. Please plan on attending Back to School Night for more information. I believe developing high self-esteem is at the heart of all success. I use positive praise to help children achieve this. The curriculum being taught is designed to challenge every child. The growth of your child’s physical, emotional, and intellectual being is my goal. This first week in the classroom I will begin establishing routines and building trust in relationships. Students will then feel comfortable taking risks involved in learning new skills and working with others. I will be observing students and giving assessments that are essential in setting up the best programs to meet individual and group needs. Homework: There will be homework assigned nightly, Monday-Thursday. Homework will reflect what is being taught in class each day. Homework is due the very next day. As well as nightly homework, your child is required to read and record a minimum of 20-30 minutes a night. Your child should be reading five days a week. Reading logs will go home on Mondays and are due the following Monday. Progress Folders: A Progress Folder will be sent home once a week on Thursdays. It will contain corrected papers from the previous week as well as an attached behavioral/academic report. Please take a moment to look over your child’s work, this will give you an understanding of the quality of work and the current areas of study in which your child is involved. The progress report is due on Fridays. Volunteers: Volunteers will be needed to help with field trips, classroom parties, clerical tasks, and other areas of individual expertise. Please sign up at Back to School Night. Supplies: Here are a few items your child will need: a two pocket homework folder, a calculator, scissors, glue stick & bottled glue, pencils, erasers, a self-contained pencil sharpener, crayons/colored pencils, and plenty of Kleenex. Snacks: Snacks are highly recommended. Lunch is not until 12:10 pm. Please send your child with their own snack, whole class snacks will not be provided. Feel free to stop by the classroom before or after school or call me at 619-460-5755 ext. 111 with any inquiries. I look forward to meeting you at Back to School Night. Sincerely, |
