 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

After school enrichment programs are offered to Hearst students.  Most activities take place on campus and are run by local organizations that have been approved by the Hearst principal.  Information on these activities is generally sent home with all students announcing times, dates and fees.  Below are general descriptions and contacts. Note that times, dates or contacts may change; please contact the school office for the current details.

 

SAY EXTENDED DAY CARE

SAY Extended Child-Care Program is a licensed, fee-based, child care program available to all children, ages 5 - 12.  A balance of activities is offered, including homework assistance, creative education and recreation.  SAY is open to all Hearst students, however space may be limited.  Children may enter the program at anytime, depending upon space availability.

 FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES

International Education Systems (IES), a non-profit organization, provides classes in conversational Spanish, French or Japanese, to Hearst students.  IES utilizes a proven natural oral approach, through games, poems, songs and activities, etc.

GIRL SCOUTS / BROWNIES

All Hearst girls are welcome to join the Girl Scouts, a nationally recognized organization for girls.  They promote fun and learning in an accepting and nurturing environment.  In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls engage in activities that will develop leadership, values, and conviction, etc.  Six troops (one for each grade) meet at Hearst.

MARTIAL ARTS  (MAAS)

Introductory course in martial arts, available to students in grades K thru 5 at all experience levels.  Emphasis is on building a strong mind and body and not on fighting.  The goal is to develop confidence, self-control and physical fitness. Elements of Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, and Tai Chi are incorporated.  Instructors are certified through the Allied Gardens School of Martial Arts.

 DRAMA

 

HEARTLIGHT

Exercise program where girls and boys learn the latest jazz, hip hop, and aerobic dance steps in a non competitive, fun atmosphere.  Emphasis is on individual achievement, improvement, and fun.  Heartlight aerobics appeals to children of every level of fitness and athletic ability.

K-KIDS

K-Kids is a community service organization sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club.  Children and parents are provided opportunities to serve the school and local community, while developing leadership and teamwork skills, morals and respect for others.
