About Our School

We at Knox Elementary believe a safe and orderly environment is necessary for the highest levels of student learning and success. With this as our goal, the Knox staff has developed a school wide climate program designed to teach responsible and safe behavior. In keeping with existing Knox rules, our program clearly outlines acceptable and non acceptable behaviors, while providing consequences which will be strictly enforced.

Following you will find the Knox rules along with a list of positive rewards that will motivate students who are following Knox rules. Appropriate procedures and consequences are outlined for any student who chooses not to follow Knox policies.

The Knox School Wide Climate Program has also developed a series of steps designed to provide appropriate consequences for students who choose not follow school policy. These are outlined later on this page.

Remember, safe, orderly environments promote productive, happy students! Your help and cooperation is greatly appreciated!

SOCIAL SKILLS PROGRAM

Knox uses a precisely defined and systematically delivered Character Education Program in the classroom to enable students to:

  • interact effectively and successfully with others
  • feel connected to school
  • learn specific behaviors that demonstrate the character traits defined monthly
  • develop positive feelings toward themselves, their school, and their community

General School Procedures

Come to school on time and be prepared to work.

  • Students are to come to school on time and be in class by the tardy bell. Breakfast is to be eaten before the bell rings.
  • If students are late they will have to make up the time at recess or lunch/recess.
  • Students are expected to come prepared to class, complete all classroom assignments and homework assignments.
  • Students are not to bring toys, yo-yos, walkmans, Pokemon cards, electronic games, pagers, gum or objects that could endanger anyone.

Always practice self control-You are responsible for your actions.

  • Appropriate language should be used at all times. (profanity or obscene gestures are not appropriate)
  • Harassment of any type including sexual harassment will not be tolerated. (hitting, kicking, spitting, using profanity or making obscene gestures is not acceptable.)
  • NO fighting, pushing or hitting is allowed. Ask for help from an adult if there are any problems.

Respect yourself, other students, all adults and school property.

  • Appropriate clothing should be worn to school. Each student is expected to wear the school uniform of navy blue and white. (Section 48907-Education Code) Clothing that promotes bad language, gang affiliation, alcohol or cigarettes will not be tolerated.
  • Students may bring nutritious snacks. These must be eaten at a designated place and time on upper and lower fields. No gum or candy.
  • Be respectful when talking to any student or adult
  • NO NAME CALLING!

Excel at being courteous and obey school rules

  • Students will walk quietly at all times. No running unless it is in a game and students must have a pass to be out during class time.
  • Students will remain on upper playground in class line-up areas until bell rings in the morning. No playground balls are allowed to be used in the morning.
  • Students are not to be between buildings on the upper or lowerfields at recess or lunch times.
  • Students must walk with classroom to gate for dismissal, and enter in the morning through the large double gates. All students are to exit through the large double gates.

Playground Expectations

Knox students will:

  • Follow instructions (freeze at bell & red flag)
  • Keep hands, feet, objects to yourself
  • Be respectful - no name calling or put downs
  • Play in assigned areas
  • Use equipment properly

Cafeteria/Lunch Area Expectations

Knox students will:

  • Follow directions
  • Keep hands, feet, mouth and objects to yourself
  • Keep your space clean
  • Talk quietly and eat sitting down
  • Dispose of trash in a quiet, orderly manner

Auditorium/Hallway Expectations

  • Follow directions
  • Keep off stage unless directed to do so
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself
  • Use quiet voices
  • Walk do not run, in auditorium or hallways
  • Use all materials and equipment properly

Community Outreach Tutoring

Steps of Success

  • self-esteem improvement program for African-American students

School Job Assignments

  • students are assigned various duties on campus (assisting in other classrooms, nurse's office, main offices, school grounds, etc.)

Exercise Program

  • students may be assigned 1 hour physical exercise program under adult supervision.

Consequences

When a student fails to follow school or classroom rules or expectations the following steps will be taken:

  • STEP 1 Warning
  • STEP 2 3 minutes after class
  • STEP 3 5 minutes after class
  • STEP 4 10 minutes after class and Parent/Guardian contact or Buddyroom timeout (*Detention may be assigned )
  • STEP 5 Administration (*Detention may be assigned )
  • STEP 6 Severe Offenses, see below

 

SEVERE OFFENSE:

Directly to administrator, bypasses steps 1-4

Serious, harmful fighting
Drugs, weapons
Vandalism
Extreme insubordination
Extremely overt defiance
Sexual harassment
Stopping a class from functioning

AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION

May be assigned as a consequence. It will be 30 minutes after school from 3:45
to 4:15 in the cafeteria area. Please be advised that, if assigned, detention is mandatory and any unexcused absence will result in a double time assignment.
 

KNOX ADMINISTRATOR SUPPORT SYSTEM: SEVERE BEHAVIOR

The referral is made from the teacher's referral plan regarding fighting, vandalism, overt defiance and stopping the class from functioning. During the process the administrator may choose alternate procedures (Below)
