Parent Involvement Policy*Title I Program and its requirements are shared with parents at a School Site Council/Governance Team meeting annually. Knox Elementary will provide monthly meetings for extensive parental involvement. Topics covered duirng these meetings, offered by the Center for Parent Involvement in Education (CPIE), The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELC), The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Parents Getting Together (PTG), and School Site Council/Governance Team (SSC/GOV) amongst others, will include:
Parents will assist in appropriate planning and training towards increasing parent involvement duirng regularly scheduled SSC/GOV training sessions. Parental input and suggestions emerging from parnet meetings and training sessions will be shared with the SSC/GOV to provide an organized, ongoing, and timely way of involving parents in the planning, implementation, review, and improvement of the program. Implementation of district administrative procedure No. 9060 and 9062 will be monitored closeley by the SSC/GOV. The school wide parent newsletter, mailed eight times per year, will inform parents and the community in general of all meetings of interest. For special meetings, Hispanic parents will receive notices in their primary language. In addition, newsletters and flyers will be used to advertise parent meetings and training sessions offered at Knox, at the District Advisory Council site, and within San Diego Unified School District in general. Parents will be given the Water's Bill students assessment results, the Knox School Accountability Report Card, Home School Compact, and their child's report card and protfolio during parent/teacher conferences held in November and March. Teachers will not only help parents interpret these results, but also assist in creating a plan of action which parents can use at home to assist and support their child's learning process. Parents will be mailed this information if they do not attend the parent/teacher conference and are encouraged to call the school to set up an appointment to review their child's academic and social progress with the teacher. During parent meetings, there will be opportunities for parent input and suggestions. Responses to such input and suggestions will be addressed and reviewed by the appropriate personnel and in time for the next scheduled SSC/GOV meeting. Topics which yield the highest priority will be placed on the agenda by either the chair of the SSC/GOV or the principal. |
