Traffic and Safety Rules
Any instructions given by staff or teachers are for the children's safety. Please be a good role model by following their instructions in a respectful manner.
Student Drop-off and Pick-up Policy
Traffic flows in front of the school on Browning Street and by the kindergarten classrooms on Willow Street.
Safety is always a top priority during drop-off and pick-up times. Traffic around the school increases and parking is limited. Please be extra aware of the following:
- Students and families who are traveling by bike or are walking.
- Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block their driveways.
- Please do not park in the designated crosswalks
- Please follow all California State Vehicle Codes---Parking in front of the school is for short periods and there is a no parking zone which is designated for our school buses.
- Teacher supervision begins at 8:45 a.m. No supervision will be provided prior to 8:45 a.m.
- Students will be released promptly at 3:35 p.m. (or 1:05 p.m. on Thursday's).
- Please promptly pick up your students at dismissal and ensure your students know how they will be getting home.
Poliza de Dejar/Recoger Estudiantes
Hay traffico en frente de la escuela en la Calle Browning y junto de los salones de kinder en la Calle Willow.
La seguridad siempre es la prioridad mas grande durante los tiempos de dejar y recoger los estudiantes. Hay mas traffico en la escuela y el estacionamento esta limitado. Por favor noten lo siguiente:
- Estudiantes y familias que estan en bicicleta o estan caminando.
- Por favor sean respetables de nuestros vecinos y no bloqueen su camino de entrada.
- Por favor no se estacionen en los caminos de cruzar.
- Por favor sigan todos los Codigos Vehiculares del Estado de California- - - Estacionandoce en frente de la escuela es para periodos cortos y hay una zona que esta designada solamento para nuestro autobuses.
- Supervision de maestras comienza a las 8:45 a.m. No hay supervision para los estudiantes antes de la 8:45 a.m.
- Los estudiantes salen a las 3:35 p.m. (a las 1:05 p.m. los jueves).
- Por favor recogan a sus estudiantes al tiempo de la salida y aseguren que sus estudiantes saben como van a llegar a la casa.
Parking
Loma Portal does not have a Safety Patrol due to the young age of our student population. For student safety parents are asked to park on city streets when visiting the school. We realize there is a very limited amount of street parking because we are located in the middle of a residential area; however, even though it may take a few extra minutes, we suggest you park in an area away from the front of the school and walk to the campus to get your child. Please note that the on-site parking area is for staff use only. We must all respect our neighbors when parking in front of their homes.
Please do not drive into the vehicular driveway to retrieve your child from the playground. Your cooperation is needed during dismissal because it is hectic and very dangerous at times. Please do not park in the bus-loading zone, crosswalks, vehicular entrance gate, and watch for colored curbs. Do not double park, or block our neighbors' driveways. San Diego Police routinely patrol and cite cars for these types of violations. There is room for up to ten cars to park at the green (10 minute) curb in front of the school.
Walking to School
Students who walk to school are expected to use the sidewalks and cross at crosswalks. For the safety of everyone all-way stop signs were installed on Browning and Plum streets. Please instruct your child not to cross in the middle of the block or between parked cars. Parents can assist in this important safety matter by not calling to their children from across the street.
