Chris Hargrave:

Mrs. Hargrave moved to San Diego from Orange County to attend San Diego State University where she earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology, a teaching credential, Master's Degree, and Administrative credential. As an avid learner, Mrs. Hargrave actively seeks opportunities to further her knowledge of teaching and learning. Over the years, she has participated in national and local projects and institutes.

Mrs. Hargrave first came to Muirlands thirteen years ago when it was reconfigured from a junior high to a middle school. Throughout her career as a middle school educator, she taught sixth grade history, math, and literacy. Prior to becoming principal of Muirlands she was a peer coach/staff developer, vice-principal at Marshall Middle School, and principal at Mann Middle School for two years.

Mrs. Hargrave believes that schools must create and sustain a culture that allows every student to develop to his/her greatest potential. She believes that students must feel safe to share their thinking and challenge each other to explore other ideas and opinions. Muirlands middle school staff is committed to building a sense of community on campus and in classrooms to provide an environment in which students feel comfortable and confident to take risks.

In addition to a supportive environment, she believes that students must be provided with academically challenging curriculum that will allow them to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Mrs. Hargrave believes that education is a collaborative endeavor between educators, parents, students, and the community.
