Polaris Club
The Polaris Club is named for the North Star, which has served for
thousands of years to guide travelers. The club's goal is to provide
guidance to the students at Muirlands Middle School. It does this in
two ways. First, Polaris members are responsible for creating and
maintaining the school's website. The site provides students, parents,
and staff with information about the school, programs, clubs,
departments, and events. Secondly, the Polaris Club is responsible for
putting together the East Coast Expedition handbook every year. The
handbook is an integral part of the trip experience for all
participating eighth graders. It contains carefully selected
information, assignments, and other resources which Expedition
participants will use throughout the trip. The Polaris Club provides
students with a means to have direct input on two important components
of Muirlands Middle School, the school website and the East Coast
Expedition guidebook.

Special
Advisories
Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is an advisory that challenges the students to
explore areas of science not necessarily taught in school, and apply
their new knowledge to hands-on activities. These new skills are tested
in fun and rewarding competitions at regional, state, and national
levels. Science Olympiad is both fun and rewarding, as well as being
challenging.
AFTER-SCHOOL
CLUBS
How
clubs work
Clubs meet one day a week for eight weeks from
2:15-3:30pm (right after school). This is a Foundation sponsored
program that is intended to get like-minded students together in a fun
forum. We hope this enriches your child’s Muirlands experience. Most
clubs are $80 for eight weeks, unless otherwise noted. Please see
registration form for payment details. This is not a big
fundraiser, just great fun for your children.
Please print the CLUB REGISTRATION SHEET (and
liability waiver) (in Adobe pdf format), complete it and
return to the school office before January 12, 2006 for the second
session (or mail to: Muirlands Foundation, Attn: After-School Clubs,
1056 Nautilus St., La Jolla, CA 92037)
