SAN DIEGO – During his school’s Winter Break, Sam Tall, a senior at the School of CHAMPS (Community Health And Medical Practices) found himself faced with the opportunity to make a life-changing difference.

The senior was jogging around his neighborhood when he came upon a woman who had collapsed on the sidewalk. As a result of his enrollment in the Certified Nursing Assistant course at CHAMPs, Tall is certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Applying the skills he learned at school, Tall immediately assessed the situation and began to administer CPR while another bystander called 911.

When paramedics arrived on the scene, the woman was transported to the hospital. Due to Tall’s courageous act, she recovered and later joined her family in saying “thank you for caring enough to save my life.”

Upon his return to school, the entire staff and student body saluted Sam. “He really lived up to the name of ‘Tall’ with his great, big act of courage,” said CHAMPS Principal Chris Hurst. “We believe he will continue to inspire his peers to leave great marks in history.”

Tall was presented with the CHAMPS Outstanding Service Award and the Plaque of Courage during an assembly at his school earlier this year.
