Mr. Anderson

My name is Mr. Mark Anderson.

Hometown:  Loveland CO

College:  USD (SOUTH DAKOTA... Brrrr)

Instruments:  Bass, Tuba, Trombone, Guitar, anything...

Hobbies:  Surfing, music, recording, coaching diving, any board sports.

Years at Pershing:  Year #2

Classes taught:  Band and Orchestra (Strings) all grade levels.

Favorite Movies:  School of Rock, This is Spinal Tap, God Save the Queen.

I love teaching music because music is a way for us all to express any feeling without saying or writing a word.  People understand music, even if they do not speak your language. It also allows us to turn the guitar amps
up really loud and Rock Out! 

At the end of the year, I want my students to look back on their time in my class and say: 
"Wow, what a ride! I can't wait to play in the High School music groups."

Ms. Buchanan

My name is Ms. Nicole Buchanan

I have been a teacher for 8 years and have taught at Pershing for 5 years.

I teach Computer Science at Pershing.

My educational background is:
I went to Springfield College in Massachusetts. My major was Math, Science and Technology with Certification in Education. 
I studied abroad in England for a year where I was able to do some of my student teaching. 
I am now a student at San Diego State University working towards my Masters in Educational Technology. 

My hobbies include:
Running is my favorite stress relief. I have now run three marathons and hope to run another one this fall. 
I have also got into road biking and my new found love is to ride up the coast on most weekends. 
My family is all back in Boston, so I love traveling back to the east coast to experience the seasons and most importantly see my Boston Red Sox. 
Jason Varitek is my favorite player for the Sox and David Roberts is my favorite Padre player.

I love teaching middle school because my students are creative, enthusiastic, bright, willing to take risks, and overall always keep me on toes.  They always surprise me with their ability to look at things in a completely different way and find new solutions.

At the end of the year, I want my students to look back on their time in my class and say: 
"I have never thought I could work that hard and learn so much!"

 

Ms. Cooke

My name is Miss Candice Cooke.

This is my second year teaching at Pershing.

I teach Pre-Engineering at Pershing.

My educational background is:
Liberal Studies Major at San Diego State University
and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential at San Diego State University.
Project Lead the Way Certification for Gateway to Technology at Duke University.

My hobbies include:
Playing indoor soccer, surfing, reading, listening to music, and traveling!

I love teaching middle school because:
Independent and mature learners that are young adults and fun to teach.

At the end of the year, I want my students to look back on their time in my class and say: 
"We had a blast and it was worth it!"

Mrs. Miller

My name is Mrs. Terry Miller.

I have been a teacher for 25 years and have taught at Pershing for 13 years.

I teach Drama at Pershing.

My educational background is:
BA - English major/Education minor - Queens College
MA - Educational Theatre - New York University
Post Graduate work in Theatre at the University of Denver - All but Dissertation 
Graduate Assistant in Theatre Research and Children's Theatre

My hobbies include:
Musical Theatre and directing plays

I love teaching middle school because the students are at an impressionable age on which I can have great influence. I also enjoy the energy and stimulating environment of each day!

At the end of the year, I want my students to look back on their time in my class and say: 
"I can't believe how much fun I had and how much I learned! I love drama!"
