    Awards And Honors

    In October 2005, the Public Relations Society of America gave the Proposition MM Communications Program the Edward L. Bernays Mark of Excellence award for being the best public relations p
    rogram for a non-profit/government organization in San Diego. The award recognizes superior practices in the research, planning, execution and evaluation of a communications program. Proposition MM was recognized for its comprehensive approach to informing the San Diego community of the positive progress being made by Proposition MM; involving the San Diego community in critical issues and decisions; and effectively integrating broad strategies including media exposure, special events, issues management and community relations. The awards program is the public relations industry's highest and most comprehensive form of recognition in the San Diego region.

    The San Diego County Taxpayers' Association gave Proposition MM its coveted Grand Golden Watchdog Award in 2005 -- the highest award given -- for exemplfying efficient use of taxpayers' dollars. Read the news release.

    The San Diego County Taxpayers' Association chose Proposition MM as the recipient of a Regional Golden Watchdog Award in 2002 for effective management and efficient use of taxpayers' dollars. Read the news release.

    In June 2002, the San Diego chapter of the American Planning Association gave a first place award to the Proposition MM New Schools Site Selection Process. The award is given for the school district's approach to selecting sites for new Proposition MM schools. The district's approach dovetails the highest quality of environmental review (technical analysis of potential sites) with collaboration with community planning groups, neighbors and parents.     Proposition MM was honored as a finalist in an awards competition for commitment to diversity. The San Diego Business Journal's Multicultural Awards 2003 "honors San Diego's most prestigious firms for their commitment to diversity in their organization and their community." Proposition MM was one of 50 area organizations honored for its minority business outreach efforts, engaging diverse communities, and creative partnerships with key agencies.     Engineering News Record (ENR), a leading national publication of the construction industry, released its list of Top 25 Newsmakers of 2003 which includes Lou Smith, chief operating officer of Facilities Management. The list, created by the editors of ENR, is comprised of "leaders who serve the best interests of the construction industry." All leaders named in the list are also nominees for ENR's Award of Excellence, which will be announced in April. Read the article.

    The Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering - Southern California Section selected Lou Smith as recipient of its 2004 President's Award. The award recognizes leadership in project/program management and controls of Proposition MM.
