Public Auction Set for April 16
The next district Public Auction is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at the Supply Center Yard, 2351 Cardinal Lane (92123). The auction will begin at 10:30 a.m. Please arrive by 9 a.m. to preview items for sale and to register and receive a bidder number. A $200 cash refundable deposit is required to participate in the auction. Miscellaneous obsolete, no parts available, and beyond economical repair furniture and equipment will be for sale. Presidential Math and Science Teaching Awards
The National Science Foundation is accepting nominations and applications for the 2009 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching program. This program recognizes K-12 teachers for their contributions to teaching and learning and their ability to help students make progress in mathematics and science. Teachers must be highly qualified, full-time employees with five years of math or science teaching experience in grades 7-12. To apply, teachers must first be nominated for the award. Teachers may nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else (e.g., principals, teachers, parents). Once nominated, teachers will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to access the online application. Awards include a paid trip for two to Washington, DC, to attend a weeklong series of events and a $10,000 award. Nomination forms are due Friday, May 1. For more information, visit www.paemst.org.

DonorsChoose.org provides students in need with resources that schools often lack. Teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. DonorsChoose.org is pleased to announce three “Double Your Impact” offers available in San Diego County:
Bill & Linda Gates Foundation - Any college-prep project submitted to DonorsChoose.org from a high-need high school teacher will be eligible for 50% funding from the Gates Foundation.
Motorola Foundation – Science, technology, engineering or math projects requesting enrichment materials, with a total cost of $800 or less.
Qualcomm Incorporated– Qualcomm will match dollar for dollar all San Diego County projects on DonorsChoose.org with a total cost of $1,000 or less. There is also the potential for Qualcomm to provide full funding for projects, pairing with the Gates Foundation or Motorola for projects that meet their qualifications.

2009 Cox Communications Innovation in Education Grants
This year, the Cox Kids Foundation will award a total of $60,000 in grants (up to $5000 each) to public, charter and private middle and junior high schools (grades 6-8) located in the communities served by Cox Communications. SD City College Offers Spanish Immersion Program San Diego City College is offering a one-week Spanish immersion program in Ensenada, Mexico from April 5-11, along with its intensive summer program in Cuernavaca, Mexico. There is both a two-week and four-week program during the summer. Each option includes 25 hours of language instruction per week while living with a Mexican host family where three daily meals will be served. Excursions are included.
