Special Education Certification Program
SDUSD and SDEA are offering a new educational opportunity for district teachers interested in the Special Education Certification Program for a Masters Degree in Special Education. ASB Consultant and Official Fee Forms - School Sites
Prior to leaving on summer break, school sites are reminded to submit pink copies of ASB Consultant and Official Fee forms to Accounts Payable for all services rendered through a site's last day of activities. The pink forms must be legible, including social security numbers, physical addresses, secretary or financial clerk's name, and phone number. Teacher Survey on Prop S Technology Training
The Information and Technology Support Services/Ed Tech Department wants input from district teachers on preferences for Prop S technology training. Newly-Adopted Instructional Materials
The Board of Education has adopted new instructional materials in the following areas: English language arts; language acquisition/world languages; mathematics; science; and visual and performing arts. New instructional materials are available for review Monday - Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Instructional Materials Department. Williams Legislation – Sufficiency of Instructional Materials
School sites and principals are required to certify sufficiency of instructional materials for 2009-10 by early September. The Education Code Section 60119 defines “sufficient textbooks or instructional materials” as: Each pupil, including English learners, has a textbook or instructional materials, or both, to use in class and to take home in English language arts, science, history/social science, mathematics, and world language, and health for grades 9-12. A list of our current, adopted materials by course can be found on the Instructional Materials Department website under Forms/References>Textbook Ordering Workshop Packets>Adopted Titles. District Purchase Card Training District Purchase Card training will be held at the Ed Center auditorium on the following dates: August 27, September 16, October 14 and November 18. Each session will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. If you are interested in applying for a district purchase card and have not already held a card or completed a training session, you must attend this training. You must also attend if you are a new approver or a reconciler who has not yet attended this class, or if you plan on becoming a cardholder, an approver, or a reconciler at a later date. School principals, site administrators, financial clerks and secretaries are also strongly urged to attend if they have not already attended training. Earn National Board Certification, Master's Degree at the Same Time In partnership with National University, district teachers can pursue National Board Certification in 2009-10 while completing a Master's Degree in Teaching, a Master's with an Administrative Credential, or simply National Board Certification. Classes meet one night per week at Birney Elementary and online in a hybrid program. Student loan repayment scholarships are available for teachers with up to 5 years of teaching experience in math, science, or history, all levels, through Americorp (up to 15 candidates in 09-10). Teachers who want to apply for National Board Certification with up to $2,000 fee support through National University must enroll by September 1. Free BBQ for Students and Families Kicks Off the Summer Fun Café
The public is invited to attend the Summer Fun Café BBQ kickoff event being held Wednesday, June 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Skyline Hills Community Park. The event highlights the summer-long USDA program that provides free lunches and snacks to children ages 2-18 years in neighborhoods where more than 50% of the students qualify for free and reduced-price meals.
