Destiny Library and Textbook Manager |
San Diego Unified is changing to a new library and textbook management program called Destiny. The transition from Horizon, the previous management system, should be completed this summer and Destiny should be ready to implement when school resumes. The new program will give schools the tracking, management and analysis tools needed to ensure that library and instructional materials are in the right place at the right time. 2009-10 Bell Times Update |
Principals are reminded to update families and school communities on bell times, with most schools remaining on the same schedule, and others with minor to major changes. View a complete list of updated bell times for all schools. Schools should update their websites immediately and plan to send Connect-ED messages to families with a bell time update throughout the summer.

District Business and Community Partnerships |
On November 10, the Board of Education will ratify new Partnerships in Education. New partnerships will be submitted to the Board through a Board report. Schools and district departments/programs with new partners must submit their partnership agreements and partnership contact information to the Community Relations Department no later than Monday, October 19. Partnership Displays at the Ed Center |
Bulletin boards at the Ed Center are available for schools, departments, district programs and business partners to showcase examples of student and community engagement. The bulletin boards are on the second floor outside the Community Relations Department office, room 2121. Each bulletin board measuring 44” wide x 72” high, and multiple boards are available. Boards can be reserved on a monthly basis, September 2009 through January 2010, and April through August 2010. Pianos Available to School Sites |
If your site would like to have a piano or two for your music program, please contact the VAPA office. Every attempt will be made to move pianos to school sites before the first day of school. - New On-Line Registration System for District Trainings
The web-based system Electronic Registrar On-line (ERO) has been activated for employees to sign up for all professional development and training provided by the district. User-friendly features include: a quick-search for course descriptions, printing ‘transcripts’ of past courses, automated waiting lists and course reminders, driving directions and a direct link to the district’s substitute system (SAMS).
Log in to ERO at http://sandi.net/ero. A job aid is also available.

- District Purchase Card Training
District Purchase Card training will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, on August 27, September 16, October 14, and November 18, in the Ed Center auditorium. - Summer Institute and Demonstration School
The district’s GATE program and University of Southern California are offering a multi-faceted professional development experience for grade 1-8 teachers and administrators. The program is offered August 10-12, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Cherokee Point Elementary School. GATE funding can be utilized to offset the cost of $250 per participant. - Writing Matters Workshop for Administrators
On Wednesday, August 19, the San Diego Area Writing Project is offering a half-day workshop designed to help principals and vice principals explore ways to implement school-wide writing supports to improve student achievement through research-based, relevant professional development for classroom teachers. The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, at UC San Diego. Registration fee is $75. See registration form

- CSET Prep Courses
Teacher Preparation and Induction will offer California Subject Examinations for Teacher (CSET) Prep Courses to prepare teachers for the November 7 exam. Classes begin Thursday, October 8. Courses are available in Single Subject English , Mathematics , Science , and Social Science , plus Multiple Subjects . Courses are free for district employees; $60.00 for Charter schools and all others. The deadline to register is Thursday, October 1, by 5 p.m. Click individual subjects above for schedules. - Opportunity to Teach Guitar to Students
Little Kids Rock is a nonprofit organization that donates hundreds of free guitars and resources to any qualified teacher at San Diego Unified who wants to run a “rockin’ music program in their school. Little Kids Rock and SDUSD have organized a free workshop, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6. Once trained, teachers will be eligible for free guitars, resources and curriculum for the classroom. Interest in the workshop is high and space is limited. Apply online. - Discover Program – Fall Session
The Discover Program is seeking instructors to develop and teach classes to certificated and classified employees for the Fall session through December 2009, and throughout the year. Instructors are paid at a rate of $45.29 per hour for teaching time and $30.57 for preparation time spent outside of assigned workday. - Back-2-School Resource Fair and Enrollment Event
