Post Your Fraud Hotline Posters Now |
The district is required to post and display Fraud Hotline posters from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of the Inspector General. ( View the poster ). In accordance with the district’s Compliance Program, the following actions must be taken by all district sites, departments and divisions as soon as possible but no later than by Friday, September 18, 2009:
- Prominently display the poster in common work areas, including but not limited to teachers’ lounges, administrative offices and financial offices.
- Request that any subcontractor working on an NSF award or sub-award post the NSF/OIG fraud hotline poster in its common areas.

Counseling and Guidance Life Skills Training |
Teachers selected to implement the Life Skills curriculum must register one week prior to training using the Life Skills registration form . New teachers will be given scheduling priority; however refresher training is also available for those that have previously attended. This training and curriculum implementation will assist in maintaining district and site compliance for Title IV-Safe and Drug Free Schools. Enrollment for SES Free Tutoring Through September 30 |
Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Free Tutoring Booklets were mailed to all eligible students in July. (Only schools in year 2 or more for 2009-10 are eligible to receive SES). Five Meet the Providers Fairs for Parents (English | Spanish ) have been scheduled during the month of September to assist parents in making informed decisions. K-12 Technology Conference |
San Diego Unified is partnering with the California League of Middle and High Schools (CLMS/CLHS) to offer a K-12 Technology Conference in San Diego, December 4-6, 2009. The theme of this year’s conference is Social, Global & Green – Transforming Learning through Social Media, Global Connections and Sustainable Practices. Staff and teachers of all grade levels are invited to present conference sessions highlighting educational-technology related innovations occurring in classrooms across the district. District Purchase Card training will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, on September 16, October 14, and November 18, in the Ed Center auditorium. Training is required for all new card holders, approvers or reconcilers who have not yet attended this class. Professional Development |
- CSET Prep Courses
Teacher Preparation and Induction will offer California Subject Examinations for Teacher (CSET) Prep Courses to prepare teachers for the November 7 exam. Classes begin Thursday, October 8. Courses are available in Single Subject English, Mathematics, Science and Multiple Subjects. Courses are free for district employees; $60.00 for Charter schools and all others. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 1. See registration form and schedules for all subjects (Multi-page PDF) . - DataDirector Training
Teachers can register online at http://sandi.net/ero for DataDirector training, where attendees will design and build exams utilizing DataDirector and then use the resulting data to inform instruction. This training is divided into three sessions and should be taken in sequence. Participants will be paid Workshop Rate of $20.38/hr. If a school is interested in having a site-based training for the entire staff, resource teachers are available. - Smartboard and Promethean Workshops
San Diego County Office of Education is offering a series of both free and fee-based Smartboard and Promethean workshops at the San Diego County Regional Technology Centers. Classes are available for teachers, administrators, and support personnel of San Diego County schools. - School of Education Information Night at Point Loma Nazarene University
Point Loma Nazarene will hold its next information night on Wednesday, October 7 at 6 p.m. at their Mission Valley Regional Center. - Cool to be Smart Program Boosts AP Class Participation
Schools are encouraged to participate in the district’s Cool to be Smart – link letter
incentive program which encourages students to participate and excel in Advance Placement (AP) programs. In partnership with Mossy Automotive Group, two new cars will be given away in June 2010. - Doorways to Vision: Border Voices Poetry Project
Principals and GATE coordinators who would like a free Border Voices anthology can call the Border Voices hotline at (619) 293-2546. Ask for information on poets as guest speakers in the classroom. - Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for Grades 5-12
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States' largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. The program was created in 1995 to honor middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state, and national level. Students in grades 5-12 are eligible to apply with certification by their school principal. The student application deadline is November 2, 2009. For information and to apply, go to the webpage.
- 20-Gallon Challenge
