SSC Business
  • Approval of Minutes: Minutes of May 17, 2007 meeting were reviewed. Dan Swierczynski moved to approve the minutes as written; motion passed.

  • New Principal Announcement: Bob Frain announced that Mike George, Vice Principal from Monroe-Clark, will be our new principal. He has a long history with Taft as a former student, teacher, and now principal. He will commence duties with the 2007-08 school term.

Data Review
  • Program Improvement Update: Bob Frain reported that we received $511,000 to work with in 2006-07. Originally we were to receive $240,000 for 2007-08. Rich Cansdale was able to convince Geno Flores to give us more funds from Striving Readers to fund two full positions. Now we will be receiving the $240,000 as well as three more FTEs from PI. Because of this, we will be able to keep the block schedule.

  • Budget Update: See Program Improvement Update.

Advisory Groups
  • DELAC – No report.

  • ELAC – No report.

  • GATE – No report.

  • DAC – Marla O’Connell reported that Carl Cohn attended the meeting and presented “Outstanding Title I Awards” and “Perfect Attendance Awards.”

Public Input
  • Bob Frain announced that the final Parent Institute meeting is tonight. There will be a graduation ceremony with 51 definite graduates and 8 possible graduates. This program was a huge success and we hope to continue it next year.

  • Dan Swierczynski inquired as to the Leadership Retreat held June 7, in particular, character education, rigor, and parent involvement. Bob said that the first Leadership Team will meet with the county and then with Mike George at a later date.

  • Eleanor Evans suggested that the staff survey completed today with leadership info be presented to the new principal.

  • Nicci Krey inquired if the three FTEs will have to sign one-year contracts again next year. Bob said they will because PI money is from year to year.

Next Meeting
  • To be announced.

Adjournment
  • The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
