Partners in Education
Partners in Education are community businesses and groups who support the school in order to help us provide a better education for all our students. Our Partners here at Wangenheim are the San Diego Firefighters Local 145, Vulcan Materials Company, Barnes & Noble Mira Mesa and Souplantation Mira Mesa.
The Firefighters have been our partner for over 20 years since the program started. Every year they donate money to our school to be used for classroom supplies and to support our Washington D.C. Trip students. They also help us cook hot dogs at some of our evening events. You may have seen the Firefighters at the grill at Back to School Night and Spring Open House.
Another partner is Vulcan Materials Company, located on Black Mountain Road just one block south of Wangehheim. Last year, Vulcan Material Company donated $800 so that we could purchase graphing calculators for our 8th grade algebra students. Vulcan has also been very generous in sponsoring field trips to their plant. They always treat us to a delicious breakfast buffet and call in the experts to explain the workings of the company. The students enjoy the driving tour of the plant. (You can see the entire operation as you drive south from Gold Coast on Camino Ruiz.)
Our newest partners are Barnes & Noble and Souplantation. Souplantation will provide refreshments for our meeting and many school activities. They will host our monthly Lunch with the Principal for the Wildcats of the Month. In addition, they will provide guest speakers and field trips for our foods class. They will also provide meal certificates for student and staff recognition.
Barnes & Noble, our other new partner, is supporting our school in many ways. Carrie Dennington will come to Wangenheim once a month to run a Cirque du Freak book club. They will also host fundraisers and provide a spot for Wangenheim students to perform plays. Also, they will on occasion display our artwork in their window and provide authors as guest speakers in the classroom.
