About Proposition MM:
* Proposition MM, passed by 78% of the voters in 1998, provides $1.5 billion toward $4 billion of needed facilities improvements at San Diego City Schools. It funds construction of 16 new/rebuilt schools and modernization of 165 existing sites to support student achievement.
* Proposition MM is not impacted by the state and district budget crisis. The state cannot access Proposition MM funds, and the district can only use the funds for what was promised on the ballot. In fact, Proposition MM is on budget and on schedule. Cost management actions are being taken to ensure that rising land and construction costs do not impact the program.
* Proposition MM projects include: new libraries to complement reading goals, new science buildings to support science requirements, instructional support space to augment professional development, Internet infrastructure, as well as additional classroom space and new schools to alleviate overcrowding.
* In 2002, Proposition MM was awarded the Regional Golden Watchdog, an honor given by the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, for efficient use of taxpayer dollars.

June 8 -- The workers are currently working on grinding the concrete floors to make them level. The next step is to apply the flooring and install the cabinets.

Construction continues in the 400 building. The walls for the new science labs have been framed. Workers are finishing up the electrical work and much of the sheet rock has already been installed. The expected date of completion for the 400 building is the middle of August.

Great news! The new science classrooms are ready. On December 1st, the movers started delivering the new scientific tables which the students will use. On Monday, December 6, the science teachers will begin moving in. By Wednesday, December 8, all science classes will be taught in the new classrooms. The new Home Economics room will not be ready for several more weeks.
In the photos you will see the teacher prep room which is located in the center of the building and links to all 6 science rooms. In the prep room you will see a photo of the fume hood which teachers will use if they are handling noxious chemicals. In addition, there is a state-of-the-art eye-wash and shower for emergencies.
Each classroom has a small office for the teacher and a teaching station at the front of the room which has a sink, eye wash and computer hook-up. Along the sides of the room are counters with sinks and gas jets where the students will perform their experiments.
This construction has taken over a year and everyone is very excited to finally move in. We will post more photos once the teachers have moved in.
